Heather what do you love about your work?
I love the fact that no 2 ceremonies are ever the same! Each ceremony is tailored around the couple, and is so unique and personal to them and really reflects who they are as a couple! I love seeing their faces as they greet each other for the first time at the start of the ceremony – it’s a really special moment and I get the best seat in the house for that part!
What is your favourite wedding?
My own wedding, conducted by Louise was pretty epic 🙂
But for me it has to be a ceremony I conducted last summer in a private chapel within the gardens of the couple’s house. They had spent years lovingly restoring he chapel from a ruin to it’s former glory, and has always hoped they could get married there. It was such a beautiful moment to see the Bride walk down the aisle and say I do in front of all their family friends knowing how much they had put into making that moment a real dream come true!
What is your most loved wedding reading?
I really love the reading Maybe, as I feel it has such a beautiful sentiment – I had this at my own wedding: Maybe…
Maybe we are supposed to meet the wrong people before we meet the right one so when they finally arrive we are truly grateful for the gift we have been given.
Maybe its true that we don’t know what we have lost until we lose it but it is also true that we don’t know what we’re missing until it arrives.
Maybe the happiest of people don’t have the best of everything, but make the best of everything that comes their way.
Maybe the best kind of love is the kind where you sit on the sofa together, not saying a word, and walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you ever had.
Maybe once in a lifetime you find someone who not only touches your heart but also your soul, someone who loves you for who you are and not what you could be.
Maybe the art of true love is not about finding the perfect person, but about seeing an imperfect person perfectly.
There’s also a great one called The Lovely Dinosaur by Edward Monkton which I’ve heard couple’s ask friends to read and they often change the words to reflect the couple’s interests, one that always gets a smile and an ahhhhhh at the end!
What music do you love for the couples exit?
I love it when couple’s chose something a bit different for their big exit – something upbeat that gets everyone up and dancing and ready to party!
What is the best thing about what you do?
The best thing is the freedom being am independent celebrant gives our couples. The fact they are not tied to any set rules means that we can do some really creative, imaginative and beautiful ceremonies, literally anywhere anytime, anyplace! To be a small part of their special day is a real privilege and I feel very lucky to do the work I do!
